OUTREACH
“Gather and Give” – our Outreach Project.
It’s time for another collection for “Gather and Give”, being held Feb.1st to 18th in the church lobby.
“Gather and Give” works with over 100 social services agencies to provide basic home essential kits for people making the transition from homelessness, treatment/recovery, refugees etc. to a more stable lifestyle.
Because of lack of space they do not require large items- the list is endless but for example, pots and pans, dishes, kettles, linens, blankets and so on. As they are a registered charitable organization they can also accept cash donations.
They also provide supplies for local shelters including toiletry kits, blankets, winter coats, hats and gloves.
They have a web site www.gatherandgive.org
All donations are welcomed in the church lobby, up to February 18th.

Refuge Family Update
Over the summer, Senaa and Enam Al-Azaizeh, with their three children Qods, Ali and Omar have settled in well.
They arrived in Canada April 27th 2011 and were settled into an apartment in the Burnaby/ Edmonds area, near where other families from the Al Hol camp are living.
A very enthusiastic team representing six United churches, three Anglican churches and a Mosque, has, since the Al-Azaizeh's arrival seen to their various needs.
As so many were involved there were volunteers to spare to help them with their English, registering for various courses and activities, take them to medical clinics and show them what a wonderful place Vancouver is.
The United Nations High Commission for Refugees has tried to get all the families that were living in Al Hol camp out and close the camp down. The result is that many other families have come to Vancouver. Many have been settled in the Burnaby/Edmonds area and some have gone to the area around Nanaimo. Churches there are taking care of them with some support from our group here.
A picnic for all the families and supporters was held in June at Mahon Park. There were approximately 100 people that attended (believe it or not ~ the weather was good) Some came from Nanaimo. Others who had come to Vancouver in previous years came to see their old friends from the Camp. We were treated to the men doing a dance of joy. It was a very festive atmosphere
The Al-Azaizehs are a delightful family. The two older children are rapidly learning English. The parents are studying hard and are doing well.
