St. Catherine’s
Green Weekend
For
the second year, St. Catherine's will host a "Shades
of Green" weekend on April 25, 26 and 27.
The major focus will be on the recycling of end-of-life electronic
goods rather than having such items piling up in landfills
and leaching harmful substances. The weekend will begin with
the showing of the film "Manufactured Landscapes",
a visual impact on the disposability of our times.
On
Saturday, the congregation are invited to bring their end-of-life
electronics to the church for sorting and delivery to two
recycling depots that practise environmental stewardship.
There will be encouragement to reduce the use of cars with
a bike tune-up and, new this year, there will be a plant exchange
and sale with two Master Gardeners in attendance who will
answer your questions.
On Sunday, Eucharist will be environmentally-themed
with Sunday School involvement. After the service, there will
be a variety of eco activities plus a 100 mile (160 km) lunch.
Throughout the weekend there will be a number
of displays in the church hall from participants such as the
BC Nature Trust, KAIROS, Suzuki Foundation, North Shore Recycling
and so on.
