Begin your Lenten Journey with Soul Food Sunday

St. Catherine's Church
Newsletter for March 7, 2025
Welcome to St. Catherine's!

Welcome to St. Catherine's!

Good Evening St. Catherine's Community,

My apologies for sending this newletter a little later on Friday. The day flew by with meetings and slowly packing up my things from the St. Catherine's Clergy office.

This week we crossed the threshold into Lent. A season of paying attention to the work of the Spirit. We give up things that could be distractions and take on a deepening of spiritual practice. Lent in latin means 'the lengthening of the days', so let us attend to God in our world and the beauty of Spring.

I am currently enjoying an online retreat on Fasting, and I love the focus: Fasting from Consumption; Fasting from Multitasking and Inattention; Fasting from Anxiety over Scarcity; Fasting from Speed and Rushing; Fasting from Being too Strong and Holding it Together; and Fasting from Certainty. So much to ponder and reflect on.

On Sunday, the first in Lent, we will feast at the breakfast table (Sundays are in Lent and not of Lent!). It will be our last Soul Food Sunday together. And we will reflect on what it means to begin again, on this Lenten Journey.

This week we have had some wonderful moments together as a community: Pancake Supper with Highlands United and Ash Wednesday services. And on Thursday night a number of us watched Shaunti's performance in '10 Million Stars'. See photos below.

I will write one more letter of Farewell to you next Friday,

In faith, hope and love
Sharon
