Welcome to St. Catherine'sThird Sunday of Easter Many among us have heard the sad news that Selma Kerr-Wilson passed away this past Monday, April 28 at the North Shore Hospice. As a parish community we send our heartfelt condolences to Selma’s family in this time of sorrow and loss. There will be a memorial service for her at St. Catherine’s on Monday, May 5 at 2 p.m. which will be led by Selma’s brother, Archbishop Greg Kerr-Wilson who has been with during Holy Week and Easter along with his wife Vicky. This Sunday, May 4 (Star Wars Day!) we see the return of Soul Food Sunday after a brief break in April. The theme for this Easter season feast is “Encounters with the Risen Jesus.” We will be hearing stories of possibly two of the most well-known apostles, Paul and Peter, and their encounters with the risen Jesus. Firstly, the story of the encounter that Saul (as he was known then) on the road to Damascus where he was headed to continue his persecution of the followers of Jesus (Acts 9:1-20). Then secondly, the encounter Peter has, along with some of the other disciples, on the shores of Lake Galilee (John 21:1-19), where Jesus restores Peter by asking him three times if he loves him – paralleling the three times Peter had denied Jesus – and then instructs him to follow him. Over breakfast, those attending will have the opportunity to have a conversation about these stories and, in particular, to think about which of these each of us relates to more and why. Both stories are about the transformation of these two individuals – through conversion and restoration – and the way the Spirit of God works in us to make us into the people we are created to be. What is your story? Please come and join us for a feast for body and soul! Our music at Soul food Sunday this month will be provided by harpist Hayley Ferenholtz, and we look forward to welcoming her and enjoying her music. Thank you to everyone who will be contributing food and especially Gillian Holland and Sharon Fedorak who are coordinating this. We also thank Bonnie Grundy who has coordinated this in the past and who has now stepped down from this and passed the baton to Gillian and Sharon. Thank you to all of you! Hoping you get to enjoy the sunshine this weekend! Easter Blessings+ Angus

Update on St Catherine’s Property DevelopmentApril 2025 Update Since Vestry in February, the Property Development Committee has focused on working with the District of North Vancouver on the planning application for subdivision and rezoning of the two lots for sale. Last week, Erica, our architect, and Rev. Sharon made an important presentation to the District’s Heritage Advisory Committee about our proposal to dismantle the Gower Hall. The DNV planners had made this step a requirement in their ongoing review of our preliminary planning application. Our presentation was very well received by the 8-member committee, and they passed a resolution supporting our proposal. We now look forward to the District’s formal response to our planning application, after which we will have a clearer picture of the next steps and timeframe for the proposed land sale and start of our refurbishment project. - Chris Wensley, Co-chair PDC. |
