Climate change is a global crisis that requires collective action. Every individual has a role to play in mitigating its impact. Our community member Sally Toft shared some practical steps to help fight climate change and create a more sustainable future for our planet.

"If I need inspiration for making a difference in a world that faces almost insurmountable climate challenges, I start at St Catherine’s.

Last Spring, in a concrete parking lot, 9 barren garden boxes were planted and a lush green space was created.

Vegetables became an edible garden, flowers became a pollinator heaven and our pre-schoolers combined everything into a riotous box of colour. Each time I tend our community garden, people stop to chat. Students of all ages, bikers, mums with strollers, grandparents with toddlers, they all comment.

It is heartwarming to listen to the accolades as neighbours gush over the colours of the annual flowers, the shade of the eggplants, the ripeness of the tomatoes and the abundance of the zucchini. Our garden boxes help clean the environment by absorbing CO2 and releasing oxygen. They connect neighbours and create stronger communities.

Get involved! Support a community garden, buy locally, shop at a farmers market and reduce your carbon footprint. The planet will thank you."

Let us take responsibility and work together as a community to combat climate change for the well-being of our planet and future generations.
