The Anglican Church, along with other Christian churches, has a long history of spiritual traditions that enhance both our personal and congregational life.
On the First Sunday in Advent, Nov. 27 after church, we invite you to join a discussion about how some at St Catherine’s incorporate these traditions into their own life and how as a congregation, we might choose to do so.
The panel will consist of:
- Heather Luccock: Benedictine practices
- Deborah Foster: Contemplative prayer
- John Luccock: Why the eucharist is important
- Pauline Barrett: Social justice practices inspired by the Gospel

This furthers our exploration of Christian Traditions. Diana Butler Bass in her book “The Practicing Congregation: Imagining a New Old Church” says
"This book does not argue that mainline churches should change. Rather, it argues that mainline churches are changing and have already changed. It offers no program to make change happen in congregations. Instead, it attempts to track the changes—where the changes fit in the overall history of North American religion, what cultural trends sparked the changes, why these things are happening now, and how mainline churches are experiencing new vitality through innovative engagement with traditional Christian practices. It also argues that a new kind of mainline congregation—the practicing congregation—has been born because of these changes. Practicing congregations weave together Christian practices—activities drawn from the long Christian tradition—into a pattern of being church that forms an intentional way of life in community."
